Margaret Louise Reynolds, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2024, at the age of 89. Born on March 12, 1935, in Springfield, Illinois, Margaret lived a life filled with love, kindness, and an unwavering dedication to her family and community.
Margaret grew up in Springfield, the youngest of three children. She attended Springfield High School, where she met her future husband, Richard Reynolds. They married in 1955 and shared 52 beautiful years together until Richard’s passing in 2007. Together, they raised three children: Robert, Susan, and Michael.
A devoted wife and mother, Margaret spent her early years as a homemaker, creating a warm and nurturing environment for her family. She was known for her homemade pies, love of gardening, and the joy she found in hosting family gatherings. As her children grew older, Margaret pursued her passion for education, earning a teaching degree from the University of Illinois. After retiring in 1997, Margaret enjoyed traveling with friends, reading, and volunteering at the local library. She was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church, where she participated in various outreach programs and was a cherished member of the congregation.
Margaret’s greatest joy in life was her family. She was a loving grandmother to six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Her warmth, wisdom, and humor will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her three children, Robert Reynolds (Emily), Susan Baker (James), and Michael Reynolds (Laura), as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on October 14, 2024, at the First United Methodist Church in Springfield. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Springfield Public Library or the American Heart Association, causes close to Margaret’s heart.
Margaret Louise Reynolds will be remembered for her unwavering love, kindness, and the positive impact she had on everyone around her. Her legacy of compassion and strength will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
Mom was always there for me, no matter what. She was my biggest supporter, my confidante, and my best friend. She taught me the importance of kindness, compassion, and always putting others first. I’ll cherish the memories of baking cookies together, reading books, and simply talking about life. She was truly one of a kind. I love you and miss you, mom. Love, Susan
Grandma was the most loving and gentle soul. She always had a warm smile and a kind word. She taught me the importance of family, the joy of reading, and the beauty of nature. I will always cherish the time we spent together, especially the summer days we spent at the lake. I miss you Grandma. Love, Lacy
